The Cryptogram

Pulitzer-Prize winner David Mamet’s The Cryptogram is an eerie departure from his machismo-drenched dramas like Glengarry Glen Ross and American Buffalo. Set in a typical suburban home, a young boy is forced to grow up quickly as he uncovers the mystery surrounding recent abrupt changes in his home life. The Cryptogram is a macabre Hitchcockian story; and is arguably Mamet’s most personal play...brilliantly crafted with his signature style of language, which “illuminate[s], creating a child’s vision of the world with a poignancy seldom experienced in the contemporary theater” (Vincent Canby, The New York Times).
